Affordable, looks sorted... What’s the catch?

No way to register it in Belgium though, so it would have to be trailered everywhere.

I wonder what’s wrong with it, since that is about the going rate for a rough stock 944 here in the Netherlands. The inspection is not valid anymore, so their could be a problem with it. On the other hand the car has been re-homologated for the 2.3 5-cylinder engine, which costs quite a bit of money, making the low price even more weird.

I think it could be registered in any EU country, since the RDW has re-homologated it, meaning it is fully according ECE standards, so in theory they should accept for registration. Although I have heard they are indeed kinda strict with conversions in Belgium.

Yeah, you’d think so. Belgian inspection should theoretically and legally accept cars that passed inspection in another EU country (I think there was even an EU reprimand about this), but in practice you need to get lucky with the inspection station and even individual inspector. It’s still too much of a hassle at the moment, but I’m hoping it improves in the coming years. I want my engine swap, dammit!

KatzManDu once told me that going through France is somewhat common for swaps etc in the border region. The inspection stations there apparently are also more used to getting cars from France, making them somewhat easier to deal with, apparently.

But the difficulty isn’t a surprise, since you guys can’t even change drum brakes to disks.

Probably, but it’s a bit of a nuisance to have to drive over an hour each way for yearly inspection, and to still not be 100% certain you’ll pass.

True, you silly Belgians just need to start following the rules ;-), then none of that would be needed.
